It's not only the thai baht getting stronger (15 to 17% in the last 2 years) the prices in thai baht also getting more expensive than few years back…so if ur main currency is the USD dollar or euro Thailand today is at least 30 35% more expensive than 3 or 4 years ago… for example the life in spain or portugal today is cheaper than in Thailand.
I have been in Thailand for about 10 years the worst I have seen it is 28.5 baht to the dollar in 2013. But that only lasted a few months before the dollar shot back up. Hoping that happens again!!!
I lived in Thailand for years. The best rate I ever saw was 33B =$1.
We (family and I) feel the pinch on the Pound Vs Baht because we got used to it being high (60s and 70s) instead of the current high 30s.
However, you’re right that it’s always a cycle because when my father-in-law first went to Thailand in the early 1980s the £ was only in the 30s then too. It was the economic problems of 1990s which saw the Baht weaken. In fact, when the Baht was approaching 90 to the £, many Thai’s in the U.K. were getting bank loans just to spend back money to take advantage of it.
Having first gone myself in 2001 I always judge the rate against the 70/80s it was then.
Predictions are for the Baht to get stronger too over the next couple of years 🤕😢

The Baht got 33% stronger over 10 years against the Euro. About the same for the UK pound and the Australian dollar (However about 40% against the UK pound over 5 years and also about 40% against the Australian dollar over 8 years). I believe the Baht is currently the strongest currency in the world.
While I was in Thailand this month I noticed many things are currently really more expensive than in Europe. More or less all electronics are 1.5 times more expensive as in Europe. A gym membership is nearly 2 times more expensive in Thailand then in Europe. And even groceries I experienced they were more expensive than in Europe. I went to local markets (you hardly see any foreigner there) and 7-Elevens and felt it was more expensive than going to the supermarket in my home country. I would say services where labour work is involved and rent for an house or condo are still cheaper in Thailand compared to Europe.
