many here are spoiled by the high exchange rates following the 97 crisis before that the baht was25 to the us dollar and Thailand went broke trying to defend the baht things have changed Thailand now has a current account surplus of $250 billion us dollars in foreign reserves did people really think that rates would remain at those unrealistic levels lol
years back the thai baht plummeted on a whim but for some reason these days even though the economy is down the crapper, protests daily on the streets, nobody working my thoughts are it’s being propped up by chi na but what do i know

likely to be a combination of reasons. i am guessing one of those is market positioning, think of a country like a product competing against other products, Thailand could be trying to move up the value chain by repositioning to target tourists and retirees with higher financial means and filtering out those with less. new competitors are coming onto the scene and thailand have no intention of competing with them in a race to the bottom, poor retirees and tourists bring problems, thailand is happy to let the cheaper new competitors have them, just my guess, no offence intended.
I've been looking at the GBPTHB chart and it looks like it's bottomed out at 37 THB to the pound… watch this space… I see it going up now.

For sterling Brexit is why the pound is so low. If you’ve got flexibility in investments it might be worth buying stocks that pay dividends in a stronger currency.
It would be nice to get a better rate but I retired to thailand after preparing for my retirement 45 years of investing and saving. Most people want to move here and don’t have it together. Doesn’t make any difference to me what the rate is l and thai wife are living large in retirement. We are not going to run short of funds no mater what. Looking forward to getting a new Mercedes gls550 when I get back to states in two months. Bought one for my daughter six months ago and she loves it. I sure get tired of hearing about I’ll prepared people’s money woes.
Thai baht is strong they have 68500 factories and make everything maybe the rest of world other than China shouldmake their own products. I’ve had 14 thai workers working for me the last two months, they really know how to work doing very hard construction work and they work seven days a week. Other countries should learn from their work ethic and maybe they could better compete. So don’t hold your breath waiting for thai baht to decline it’s probably going the other way

People seem to think that a strong currency is good for a country,it's not.
Brexit is a huge factor in the €uro and Dollar as Sterling is dependent on both and when they leave the €U they're left in unknown new trading scenarios.
I feel it for this guy because he doesn't seem to have taken into the equation that the actual value of his sterling within Thailand could get even Wesker against Thai baht no matter what happens and that it's possible/probable that the €uro and Dollar could be worth more going forward.
All in all Brexit has Sterling unstable even going 94p vs €uro at one stage this year.Its only when the UK has to exit and must pay to trade with the EU you'll see it's value.
I wouldn't be surprised if Sterling ends up on a par with the dollar which would leave it almost impossible to deal with.
Good time to move baht into sterling imo. Hard to knownthe perfect time, but my bet is the baht wont get much stronger. We already had that rise in sterling last month. Also v possible that baht will drop big time, a weak economy with a currency propped up by investors is always a bad sign

Thailand is developing and becoming more industrial. Their car manufacturing and computer components has exploded the last ten years. They are building that East economic corridor zone near Rayong. Plus expat Thais send lots of money back. THB has good support.
The problem is the British government inflating the currency. The Thai government apparently not inflating the baht as much as the pound.
I live in the USA. Traveled to Thailand back in the mid-1990’s. The exchange rate was 33 baht to 1 USD. Today the exchange rate is 30 baht to 1 USD

Poor current exchange rates with Western countries is a HUGE factor with many Western tourists staying away from Thailand – no doubt about it. I have Australian and Canadian friends that have canceled trips to Thailand they had scheduled for late 2019 and early 2020. I suggest that this year's 'high season' will possibly last about a week (Between Christmas and New Year's) IF there is a 'High Season' at all – at least as far as 'Western' tourists are concerned…On top of all that – Thomas Cook has declared bankruptcy.
A few years ago we were living like milionares. Now, well were still well off but having to budget. Maybe its not such a bad thing. Look on the bright side… for those that have been here for a while all the expences were done when the baht was weaker.
It's tough all around if you're on a modest working salary coming from western countries. Seems a lot of expats moving to Vietnam-less restrictive…(?). Though still considering retiring in Thailand. Hopefully the exchange will drop again. What's perplexing to me is the TM30 rules for foreigners. Still trying to understand this.

When I grew up in the UK, we were so proud to be part of western Europe. We were the first world. I went to Bangkok in 1993 when the airplane had to stop there briefly. I thought Thailand was just a poor country. I actually visited Thailand in 1999, still a poor, third world country. I can't believe that today Thailand is the safe haven. Thai prices are almost the same as European prices. With the rise of China, Thailand can so easily be a first world country very soon. Whilst wages in Thailand cannot math European prices, the Thai baht and Thai property are better investments than things in Europe.
I am willing to help Thai women buy real estate in Thailand. A few years ago, I had real estate in both the UK and Hong Kong. Prices have gone up so much in Hong Kong, it costs me 40,000 baht to live in Hong Kong. So I am willing to pay help a Thai woman buy real estate in Thailand. If she cheats me, I have nothing to lose because I must pay 40,000 baht per month anyway. I knew that Asia is on the rise, so I sold my house in the UK, now the pound keeps falling. I can't get a mortgage in Thailand, so it's better a Thai got the mortgage and I pay the mortgage off. In the end, I get the girl and her house. I am also using the rental income from Hong Kong to help me buy cheaper real estate in Australia and the UK.
I sold my house in the UK just to invest in Thai baht. The Thai baht is now at 20 year highs against euro and Australian dollar. The Canadian dollar and British pound are at record lows. I think it's due to a rich Asia. With the rise of China, the west no longer rule the world. In recent years, the Chinese economy has slowed down and a lot of money is going to Thailand as it is considered a safe haven. So long as Thai intetest rates remain higher than eurozone, UK, Australia, it will go up. I am betting that 1 pound will be 20 baht one day.
25 years ago Thailand was such a great place to go great exchange rate cheap gold prices but now it is way to expensive everyone is always trying to rip you off, too much tourism , thailand has defiantly lost its charm , even my Thai girlfriend thinks Thailand is expensive

the reason the thai baht is so strong is simple….the economy is booming…..big investment is being made in thailand….but this will come at a price…..most western people will stop coming to thailand now and that's a fact…..god I love thailand but even I am stopped coming now…..the thai government had better wake up…..if the thai baht stays stong …then the tourist industry will collapse….as will many local thai businesses who depend on tourists

Most people can't believe how strong the Baht is, the Australian dollar is in the gutter at the moment at a19 year low, I have seen it at 16 in the early eighties and also at 35 in 1997, but at the moment it is 21.65 and is not showing signs of getting better any time soon, the same as most other major currencies as well.
