จอห์น เลนนอน เกิดและเติบโตที่เมืองลิเวอร์พูล เกิดเมื่อวันที่ 9 ตุลาคม 1940..จอห์น สมรสกับ โยโกะ โอโนะ ในปี 1969..ซึ่งเพลง อิเมจิ้น เป็นผลงานเดี่ยวของจอห์น หลังจากยุบวง เดอะบีทเทิ้ล ในปี 1970..
จอห์น เลนนอน ถูกฆาตกรรม และเสียชืวิตเมื่อวันที่ 8 ธันวาคม 1980 ขณะที่เลนนอนและโอโนะกลับเข้าห้องพักใน อพาร์ตเม้นท์ เดอะดาโคตา ในนิวยอร์ก ถูก มาร์ก เดวิด แชปแมน ยิงเข้าที่หลัง 4 ครั้ง โดย แชปแมนสารภาพผิดต่อคดีฆาตกรรม ได้รับตัดสินจำคุกตลอดชีวิต ซึ่ง เลนนอน มีอายุรวมได้ 40 ปีจนถึงเสียชืวิต
คอนเซปของเพลงนี้ เพื่อให้โลกได้รับรู้ว่าทุกคนมีความฝัน คนเรานั้นไม่ใช่ว่าจะมีความฝันแล้วจะไม่เป็นความจริงเสมอ เปรียบเหมือนห้องมืดๆที่ซึ่ง ดูแล้วเหมือนคนไม่มีจินตนาการไม่มีความฝันเอาเสียเลย แต่เมื่อลองเปิดตาสู่โลกกว้าง ก็จะทำให้เรามีจินตนาการการได้ เพราะจินตนาการเกิดจากการสังเกตุจากสิ่งรอบๆตัว ก็เปรียบเหมือนห้องที่สว่าง ไม่ยอมให้ความมืดเขาครอบงำ
