I have worked with several years with the Microsoft products, not only at my business but also with my church. I do agree that the price is a little stiff, and for most people there are things that will not be used. But for me I've always been a person to find a way to do things better easier and faster. Not only in business but also in my personal things that I do. I do have subscription and I do have family in my subscription being a college age child, and also one in Middle School. So I love being able if I've got a problem a question that I can simply get on the chat and get help. Have questions answered learn more. And in this day and age when my children are more on the computer then in the classroom this is helpful also. So I admit maybe for the average Joe they don't want to invest, they use it every now and then. For me this allows me to do the most that I can do and then some. Would love to see teams come into the Microsoft 365 I have worked a lot also with the Google products but I don't care too much for meetings, and I don't really want to Shell out extra money zoom, I need more than 60 minutes when I'm teaching.

We have a new IT guy at work that got us all set up in Microsoft 365. We use One Drive, TEAMS, and I love it. I am thinking of getting a subscription for myself just to upload all my pictures and have all of this at my fingertips!
This is actually a great deal if you consider that you're getting 6TB of storage on top of the Office applications.

Save yourself some money and use Google's free office software.
One problem I have with subscriptions is the constant updates. Years ago I purchased Adobe Photo Shop, everything was fine. If a new version came out that had something you needed you would purchase the update. Then they went to the subscription model. Constant updates, new this, new that. New file structures you had to figure out and convert to. I wound up spending more time keeping up with software changes, than getting work done. Where did the function go that used to be here and so on. I think you get the point. I don't want to spend my time learning what is new. I have certain things I do in Word and Excel, and I don't want to spend a bunch of time figuring out how to do it with the new updates. I finally junked Photo Shop and went on ON1.

If you need standard office tools, then Libre Office is both free and open source.
If you need the rest of the stuff, then Microsoft 365 is an option.
If you store any personal data with OneDrive, then know that Microsoft can probably read everything, or have an automated process that uses your personal data to build a profile on you.
Microsoft does encrypt your data. But they do the encryption.
In other words, you upload your data to Microsoft, and it travels from your computer to Microsoft via an encrypted tunnel (to keep anyone that is between you and Microsoft from being able to see your data). But once your data reaches Microsoft, they will have your data in the clear.

So Microsoft might have all of your data visible to them (not the rank-and-file employees — but perhaps the executives?).
You have zero ways to know what Microsoft does with your data. They can claim anything that they want. You cannot verify any of their claims.
For files that are not private, then OneDrive is fine to use.
For files that are private, then you should encrypt those files yourself, locally, on your own computer, before uploading them to OneDrive. This way, neither Microsoft nor anyone else can view your private files (unless you use a stupid password, when you encrypted your files).

I feel like getting Microsoft 365 would be good for people who want to keep up with the latest software and need it for their job; if they don't really use anything other than the basics, they don't need it. I need to get more familiar with it since IT companies want you to be proficient in this. I am just iffy about using cloud drives. I always think about how someone could hack into it and then have access to many personal files. I don't use onedrive at all. And there are only certain things I will download my Google account cloud drive.

Very good presentation . what is the different between Microsoft exchange mail server and 365. it seems I have both on my pc. I purchase a copy of 365, and each time Microsoft windows 10 have an update it has to be reinstall. I Brought though best buy, I have their tech support. is this normal?
What happens if you subscribe then 3 or however many years later you cancel or do not renew your subscription. Do you lose all the documents you created together with access to the platforms such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint?
Sorry, I agree with your dad. I just need a basic permanent copy of the software – I don't run a multinational company when I've to be up to the minute everytime. And I certainly don't change my computer every 3 years.

Great video, thanks but… This is a total control thing. Microsoft needs to allow users to only purchase the apps they need. I for example ONLY need Word. They need to allow me to subscribe to only Word. I have ZERO use for any of the other apps including Outlook. Yet you can only install ALL or none in the 365 universe. This allows MS to keep ripping you off not to mention taking up valuable resources on my little laptop. If you buy the standalone of Word 2019 You don't get the updates available in 365, this is on purpose and devalues customers who are not willing to shell out for the overly full meal deal.

The Cost of a subscription is like a payment plan for Office, but better. It makes sense to have the subscription because you pay about the same for the subscription as you would for buying Office for $250 outright, but you do it over time, and you are always up to date so you don't have to pay again for the next iteration of Office. You can get a discount on the subscription if your company subscribes to Office 365. It is called the Home User Program (HUP).

I had problem to install office 2019 and the company do advertisement only for Office 365! I would like my documents on my PC including the Office. I spent 265 euro but in the end I decided not to use MS Office. You can create Office Excel free in google account or libeoffice!
